In 1999, Edouard Bastarache, a potter from Quebec, introduced him to Chatt McGonagill, an American potter of Mississippi who specialises in large crystals. A close cooperation was established ; they work ensemble on crystalline glazes, communicating via Internet. The harmonious and colourful universe of large crystals became the passion of Denis Caraty. In 2000, he built an electric kiln especially equipped to produce "crystallisation on porcelain". It was the beginning of his production of large crystals. In 2002 the outcome of his research was impressive. At this point he decided to show his work to the public.
